2017 ABA Diamond Cup Rules

NORMAL ABA LEAGUE RULES APPLY FOR THIS EVENT

ONLY 2017 USSSA STAMPED BATS ARE ALLOWED IN THIS TOURNAMENT (LOGO BELOW)


MERCY RULE: (12 runs after 4 innings) 

If the visiting team goes up by 12 runs, the home team will get to bat in the bottom of the inning, if the home team does not reduce the score below 12 runs the game is over.  


TIME LIMIT:

There is a 75-minute time limit on all games during the tournament.  If 75 minutes is played and the game is still in progress, it shall be continued up until the end of that full inning.  No new inning shall begin thereafter.  However, there will be no time limit in the Finals.


HOMERUN RULE - (RULES BASED ON LEVEL OF PLAY)

COED - MEN ARE AWARDED 3 HOMERUNS, ANYTHING AFTER THAT IS AN OUT, WOMEN HAVE UNLIMITED.... THIS RULE DOES NOT APPLY TO FIELDS WITHOUT A FENCE. Batters should NOT run out over-the-fence HRs, once the ball has been declared a HR, the batter and all runners may immediately walk to the dugout.  


Mens - Upper - 4 HRs per team per game  Lower - 3 HRs per team per game


COURTESY RUNNERS:  (2 per inning)

Teams will be allowed TWO (2) courtesy runners per inning (last recorded out, not last batted out).


LEGAL BATS: 

A complete list of approved bats can be found at www.usssa.com.  Any team found to be using an illegally altered or painted bat will be ejected from the tournament and the ABA league and suspended from any USSSA play.

UMPIRE FEES: (1 umpire per game until finals)

Umpire fees are NOT included.  Umpires must be paid $20 per game by each team for a one-man crew and $30 per team for a two-man crew (finals only).  Teams that do not have money to pay umpires will forfeit.


BASES and BALLS:

Bases are already in-ground.

The league office will supply balls for this event, however, teams are asked to please bring backup balls and also teams must be diligent about retrieving HR balls and foul balls, as the supply of new balls is limited.


PITCH COUNT:

All USSSA & league rules apply.


BEVERAGES:

Teams must clean out their dugouts after each use.  Dugouts found to be littered with trash after use, will result in a forfeiture of remaining games during the event.  Players are not permitted to bring alcohol into the dugouts, any team found with alcohol in the dugout will forfeit.


HOME TEAM:

*very important* - A coin flip will determine Home/Away teams during pool play. THE HIGHER SEED AFTER POOL PLAY WILL BE REWARDED HOME TEAM ADVANTAGE IN THE SINGLE ELIMINATION BRACKET.


ROSTERS/ROSTER CHALLENGES:

Rosters will be on hand in the event there are any rosters in question. Please make sure you players have an ID.


Players are NOT allowed to play on other teams once their team is eliminated, even if they were on their roster for the summer season.


Pool Play Seeding: Seeding is first determined by record. Same record tiebreaker will go by run differential. Max run differential is a team can earn is + 12 per game! Run differential tiebreaker will be that team that gave up the least amount of runs. (the least amount of runs in pool play, no max or min applied here) if tie still isn't broken,teams will flip a coin for higher seed.


FORFEITS:

Teams must be present at the field at scheduled game time. We do not wish to make any teams forfeit during this event, however, teams must keep to the schedule.  


SPEED-UP RULES:

Teams will not be permitted to take infield practice after the first inning.  Pitchers will be given (1) warm-up pitch after the first inning.

PRIZES:

Diamond Cup Champions will receive the coveted ABA Diamond Cup, League Champion Embroidered Team Apparel (Jackets, Sweatshirts or Sweatpants) and a free entry into the 2016 ABA Turkey Shoot -Out. The Diamond Cup Trophy and Winning Apparel will be presented at the 2016 ABA Awards Dinner (details to be released at a later date).
